Frequently Asked Questions
Short, direct answers about pricing, coverage, prep, and how we work in Atlanta.
How does the $1 hold work on my card?
When you open the booking form we run a Stripe authorization that places a $1 hold on your card. The hold never becomes a charge and drops off your statement within 7–10 days if the booking is cancelled before the full 16% deposit replaces it. The moment your slot is locked in, the $1 is replaced by the real 16% deposit and the difference is refunded.
What areas does StackHands cover?
Metro Atlanta only — the city of Atlanta plus a roughly 30-mile radius covering Alpharetta, Marietta, Decatur, Sandy Springs, Smyrna, and surrounding suburbs. Confirm coverage by ZIP in the inquiry form; out-of-area submissions route to /lead with a service=referral note so we can hand you off to a vetted partner instead.
What’s included — and what’s not?
Every moving-labor job includes two vetted movers, a dolly, furniture wrap, padding blankets, and basic hand tools. Not included: packing materials (you supply or add them via the inquiry form), long-distance transport between cities, and specialty items like pianos and safes — those need a partner provider and we’ll refer you out.
What’s your cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your scheduled start — full refund, no questions asked. Inside the 24-hour window the 16% deposit is non-refundable because we’ve already blocked the crew and reserved the slot. Same-day cancellations forfeit the deposit entirely.
How big is the crew for my job?
Default is two movers for moving labor, load/unload, and Midtown high-rise moves — that’s the fastest and safest crew size for most apartments. Furniture assembly and event staffing are single-specialist jobs. If you need to upsize, request extra movers at the same per-mover rate and we’ll dispatch them from our roster.
When is the final balance due?
After the job completes. The 16% deposit you paid at booking is applied to the total; the remaining balance (plus 8.9% GA sales tax) is auto-charged to the card on file via the /admin/jobs/:id/charge-with-hours flow once we record the actual hours worked. You get an itemized receipt by email within minutes of the charge.
How should I prepare for the crew?
Reserve the building elevator if you’re in a high-rise, clear walk paths from the front door to the truck, park the truck as close as possible to the loading door, label every box by destination room, secure pets in a closed room away from the action, and confirm any loading-dock or COI requirements with your building manager the day before.
Why StackHands instead of a full-service Atlanta mover?
We charge hourly labor pricing from $125/hr with a 2-hour minimum, while a full-service Atlanta van-line quote runs 3–5× that for the same crew. You talk to the actual vetted crew before they arrive, the 16% deposit protects both sides, and you only pay for the time the job actually takes — not the drive between legs of a multi-stop route.
